Car Polishing Singapore

When to Polish, When to Coat — and Why Most Cars Need Coating, Not Polishing

The Truth About Car Polishing

Polishing is one of the most misunderstood car care services in Singapore. Here’s what most people don’t know:

⚠️ Every polish removes a thin layer of your car’s clear coat. Your car has a finite amount of clear coat (typically 40–60 microns). Each polish removes 1–5 microns. After 10–15 polishes, you’re into the base paint — and that’s irreversible.

Polishing is a corrective treatment — it fixes existing damage (swirl marks, light scratches, oxidation). It is NOT a protective treatment. Within weeks of polishing, your car is back to being vulnerable.

Coating is the protective solution. It prevents the damage that creates the need for polishing in the first place.

When You DO Need Polishing

  • Visible swirl marks covering the paint (spider-web effect under lights)
  • Light scratches that catch your fingernail
  • Oxidised, chalky paint that’s lost its gloss
  • Before applying coating — to create a perfect base

KeePer LABO offers professional Fine Polishing using controlled, hand-guided techniques that remove minimum clear coat for maximum correction.

Polish vs Coating — The Smart Comparison

Aspect Polishing KeePer Coating
What It Does Removes existing damage Prevents future damage
How It Works Abrades clear coat to remove scratches Adds protective glass layer on top
Effect on Paint Removes clear coat (irreversible) Adds thickness (reversible)
Protection Duration 0 — no protection after polish 1–3+ years
Repeat Frequency Every 3–6 months Every 1–3 years
3-Year Cost (Size M) $900–1,800 (6 sessions) SGD 198–658 (1 application)
Long-Term Effect Thins and weakens clear coat Preserves and strengthens

The ideal approach: Polish once to correct existing damage, then coat to prevent it from happening again. Most cars only need polishing once — then coating takes over.

FAQ — Car Polishing Singapore

How much does car polishing cost in Singapore?
Professional polishing in Singapore ranges from $150–$500+ per session depending on the car’s size and paint condition. At KeePer LABO, we recommend one-time fine polishing followed by coating (from SGD 178) — this eliminates the need for repeated polishing and saves money long-term.
Is polishing bad for my car?
Each polish removes a thin layer of clear coat. Occasional polishing (once or twice) is fine for correcting damage, but repeated polishing weakens your paint permanently. That’s why coating is the better long-term strategy — it prevents the damage that creates the need for polishing.
Should I polish before coating?
Only if your paint has visible swirl marks or scratches. If your paint is in good condition (new car, or well-maintained), coating can be applied directly without polishing. KeePer technicians will assess your paint and advise whether pre-coating polish is needed.
